Tarlton Vintage Autos is proud to offer this beautifully restored 1966 Volvo 1800S that has been thoughtfully rebuilt over a five-year period and is now a wonderfully sorted example that blends classic Volvo character with a number of tasteful upgrades for improved performance, comfort, and drivability.
Originally finished in Volvo color code 80 Gray, this 1800S has been refinished in a striking Lotus Racing Green that complements the car’s iconic coupe lines exceptionally well. The paint remains in excellent condition, and the body is rust-free, making this an especially appealing example for collectors and enthusiasts looking for a classic Volvo that can be enjoyed rather than simply displayed.
Power comes from the legendary B18 inline four-cylinder engine, which has been rebuilt as part of the restoration. The engine is paired with a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive, while the rear-end gearing has been changed to produce lower engine RPM at highway speeds. The result is a classic sports coupe that is not only engaging on winding roads but also considerably more comfortable and relaxed during longer-distance driving.
The restoration also incorporates several upgrades aimed at making the 1800S more enjoyable in modern driving conditions. The electrical system has been upgraded, while air conditioning, a larger radiator, and additional cooling fans provide improved comfort and cooling capability. Extensive sound deadening has been installed throughout the car, helping reduce road and mechanical noise.
Inside, the tan interior features a number of tasteful custom touches. A wood-inlaid dashboard and wood Moto-Lita steering wheel add warmth and character to the cabin, while Camaro-sourced bucket seats provide a more supportive driving position. Cadillac-sourced seatbelts add another thoughtful safety upgrade. The combination gives the interior a distinctive appearance while maintaining the intimate, driver-focused character that makes the 1800S so appealing.
With approximately 10,000 miles since the restoration, this 1966 Volvo 1800S presents as a highly usable and carefully considered example. It has been restored with an emphasis on both appearance and function, incorporating mechanical, electrical, cooling, comfort, and drivability improvements without losing the personality of the original car.
